In a recent PaymentsSource article, Kate Fitzgerald notes, “Unattended payment terminals have been among the last to see action in the U.S. migration to EMV, partly because their average low ticket values aren’t a big magnet for card fraud and operators are reluctant to plow money into new hardware in a low-margin business.”
With Apriva’s partnership with Globalcom Engineering, however, unattended merchants in the U.S. now have an EMV-certified and ruggedized payment capture solution for use outdoors. The Globalcom BV1000, for example, can withstand extreme weather conditions, making it ideal for self-service payment stations in parking garages, car washes, and outdoor kiosks around the country.
Apriva completed EMV certification with Globalcom’s BV1000 device to Global Payments last year, and recently announced a payment integration solution leveraging the BV1000 for Metric Parking.
UK-based Metric Parking operates over 60,000 parking terminals worldwide. In the United States, Metric Parking works with Amano McGann to offer flexible solutions to operators and patrons. Incorporating Apriva’s solution into Metric’s offerings will provide comprehensive payment capabilities that connect any supported payment form to any integrated credit card processor. This gives parking owners and operators the freedom to choose the partners that are right for their specific needs.
“Unattended terminals have lagged far behind the payments industry in addressing EMV,” said David Riddiford, Apriva’s president. “But we’re starting to see a shift now, where more merchants are making the decision to upgrade to EMV so transactions will be secure. In the long run, they expect to see lower overall payment acceptance costs via EMV.”
Apriva is proud to support secure payments for unattended merchants today and into the future. Our partnerships with forward-thinking solution providers such as Amano McGann, Globalcom Engineering, Global Payments, and Metric Parking open exciting new opportunities in self-service markets.
